WNC Roofing was given the opportunity to roof the new Glenn and Carol Arthur Planetarium.
The Glenn and Carol Arthur Planetarium is located outside of Burnsville, NC at Mayland Community College’s Earth to Sky Park. This 60-seat planetarium with a 36 ft projection dome plans to open in the Spring of 2022. The Planetarium will be used for viewing the skies from around the world, traveling through the human body as part of STEM education, and virtually experiencing wonderful places around the globe.
Laser light shows at the Planetarium will allow visitors to listen to some of their favorite artists. It will be an event center with activities under the stars and enable viewers to experience our local night sky even when cloudy. The Glenn and Carol Arthur Planetarium will provide education and entertainment for all ages.
WNC Roofing installed a 60 mil TPO membrane to the dome’s roof. The membrane was cut into nearly 160 triangular sections with a maximum side length of 96″ and adhered to the dome. WNC Roofing also roofed the flat section with 60 mil TPO. The planetarium roof provided a unique opportunity to demonstrate our ability to roof a dome.
