Sycamore Cycles | Pisgah Forest, NC | Gutter Replacement

Recently, WNC Roofing completed a commercial roof repair project for Sycamore Cycles, located at 112 Hendersonville Hwy in Pisgah Forest, NC.

For busy commercial retail spaces, roof leaks and improper drainage can create costly disruptions. By focusing on drainage improvements and perimeter structural repairs, we helped ensure this building remains weather-tight for years to come.

Here’s how we completed the project:

Exterior Gutter Replacement

Heavy rain can overwhelm gutter systems, leading to water pooling near entrances and potential foundation damage.

To improve water shedding across the building’s exterior:

  • We cut back existing roof insulation to install wood blocking, creating a solid base for heavy-duty, 24-gauge commercial 7-inch box gutters.

  • We then flashed the new gutter assembly into the existing single-ply roof using 60 Mil TPO cover tape, creating a seamless, watertight seal.

  • This increased the drainage capacity, preventing rainwater from overflowing onto customer walkways while protecting the building’s exterior perimeter.

Eliminating Hidden Leaks

Internal gutters often contain complex angles that can trap water and cause hidden leak points if they are not properly sealed.

To eliminate this risk:

  • We clad the internal diagonal braces with ⅝-inch OSB sheathing to create a smooth, continuous substrate.
  • We installed the new TPO membrane up the sheathing and extended it 18 inches onto the main roof plane, fully heat-welding and flashing it to the existing roofing system.
  • Two custom downspouts were installed and sealed directly into the system.

These improvements fully contain the water channels, eliminate hidden leak points, and safely direct rainwater off the roof.

Trim & Fascia Metal Repairs

Strong wind and thermal expansion can loosen metal trim, causing fascia sections to separate and expose the building’s edge to wind-driven rain.

To restore the roof’s edge protection:

  • We replaced approximately 15 feet of damaged upper and lower trim metal and resecured loose fascia metal.

  • We inspected all the surrounding trim hardware and replaced worn fasteners with new, oversized gasketed fasteners.

  • Finally, we sealed vulnerable edge gaps to prevent wind-driven moisture intrusion and reinforced the roof’s ability to withstand harsh mountain weather.
