Case Study: TPO Re-Roofing at Cane River Middle School

Project Overview

Cane River Middle School required a roof upgrade for a large flat roof section showing signs of wear, water ponding, and edge metal warping. WNC Roofing was selected to provide a long-term, code-compliant solution that prioritized energy efficiency, durability, and proper water drainage.

Scope of Work

Preparation & Safety: Setup of safety lines, staging, and equipment; dumpsters provided for debris removal.
Existing Roof: Left in place since there was only one roof on it and insulation was dry.
New Membrane System: Installed Carlisle 60 mil white TPO membrane, mechanically fastened per specifications.
Drainage Improvements: Tapered insulation crickets installed around curbs and HVAC units to prevent ponding.
Flashing & Edge Metal: New flashing, drip edge, and single-piece rake metal with stiffening rib for clean finish.
Walkway Pads: Grey Carlisle TPO walk pads at access points and HVAC units for added protection.
Final Inspection: Walkthrough conducted with clients to insure all expectations were met.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge: Water ponding.
Solution: Added tapered insulation to direct water flow.
Challenge: Keeping the new roof clean during installation.

Outcome

The project delivered a high-performance, code-compliant TPO roofing system with warranty protection. With upgraded drainage and edge detailing, Cane River Middle School can expect improved building envelope protection and reduced maintenance needs over the next two decades.
